Cultural Heritage
Because our Heritage Center at the Eastern Shore of Virginia Regional Library and Heritage Center serves as a major public archives for the Eastern Shore, our Archivist leads the Eastern Shore Museum Network which is a cooperative planning group for shared programs and initiatives. The Eastern Shore Museum Network was established in 2009, assisted by the then-Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Renamed Virginia Humanities, the organization remains an active partner in the network and a supporter of its work on the Eastern Shore. The Heritage Center also provides research support to a lot of civic groups and government-appointed planning groups on the shore.
The Heritage Center also hosts exhibits, presentations, and workshops. Presentations intend to highlight the cultural history of the Shore and feature its people and historians. Exhibits highlight particular subjects relevant to the Shore and we frequently partner with the Library of Virginia in hosting state-wide relevant content. Hosted workshops allow the Archivist to share preservation strategies to the residents of Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
