Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan for items requested from outside of the library system will be temporarily deactivated from August 5th through 25th because of the Regional Library move. Borrowers are welcome to continue to submit requests, but please understand that wait times may be longer than usual.

Patrons with a valid library card can request items that Eastern Shore Public Library does not own through interlibrary loan (ILL). This is particularly useful for items that are of very specialized interest or are out of print. ILL allows ESPL patrons to access items from libraries across the country. Patrons can place a request by calling the library, or in person at the front desk of any ESPL location. Library staff will contact you when your items are ready for pickup at your branch of choice.

Patrons may also request an item through ILL online.

  • Use our online book request form.
  • Enter all required information, then click or tap the checkbox next to “Yes” if you are willing to pay the $2.00 ILL fee.
  • Click or tap the (Submit) button.

When you pick up your items, library staff will collect a standard fee of $2.00 per item procured through ILL. Library staff will contact you if there will be any charges in addition to the standard $2.00 fee. Patrons are responsible for the cost of lost or damaged items, or any late fees charged by the lending library.

ILL items come with a printed sleeve with information about the item’s lending location and due date. Please do not remove this printed sleeve.

Due dates and renewal limits will depend on the item. Please call the library or visit the front desk of any ESPL location to request a renewal of an item procured through ILL.
