Summer Food Program 2019
The Accomac and Nassawadox locations of the Eastern Shore Public Library will be partnering with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore and Accomack County Parks and Recreation to participate in the national Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) again this summer. The SFSP is a federally-funded childhood nutrition program administered locally by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). Anyone 18 years old or younger can come and eat for free at open SFSP sites.
The Eastern Shore Public Library at Accomac and the Northampton Free Library at Nassawadox will be serving meals two days a week during the Summer Reading Program. Lunch will be served at 12:00 Noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Accomac and at 12:00 Noon on Mondays and Wednesdays in Nassawadox. The program runs in conjunction with the Summer Reading Program from June 24 through August 18. Please note the libraries are closed on July 4 and July 24, so lunch will not be available on those days. Check the online calendar for more information.
Libraries are a great resource for children during the summer. They provide safe places for children to learn, read, and play with friends and family. Summer reading programs at public libraries promote literacy and encourage children to rack up those reading minutes even when school is out of session. The program is helping to ensure children on the Shore have all the brain power they need to learn and read over the summer and succeed during the upcoming school year.
