School Success with Library Resources
Back to school time is just around the corner and with it comes the inevitable homework, school projects, and research papers. The public libraries on the Eastern Shore of Virginia have many resources to help students with these endeavors. This month the library is highlighting the Credo Reference online service which can be accessed in the library or at home, on your smartphone, tablet, or computer from our E-RESOURCES webpage at http://espl.org/e-resources-2/ Credo Reference serves as a great starting point for your research offering over 3,000,000 reference entries from all the major academic subject areas. Browse over 300,000 images and 2,000 short reference videos to help visualize your research. Use their Mind Map to brainstorm your latest paper topic. Find tons of images, audio files, videos and full text articles on any topic you can think of, all with full citations that your teachers will applaud. For students studying opposing views on current issues, Real-Time Reference from Credo offers fact-based background information on the most important social issues in the news today. With tons of images, charts and pro vs con viewpoints, Real-time Reference is a great place to begin your research, inform your arguments, and learn about conflicting views on a multitude of topics. Drawing from much of your library’s online resources, Credo Topic Pages show the wealth of information available from your library on any topic. Homework Help is also available from Credo Reference. Live help for homework is provided by state certified teachers offering real teacher help. A whiteboard allows the student and teacher to effectively work through the student’s questions, and a chat box facilitates conversations between students and teachers. This service is available for students in grades 3 – 12 and provides instant help – no appointment is needed. During the school year the hours of availability are Monday through Thursday from 3 pm to 9 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm. Summer hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm. Live Homework Help is not available on major holidays. Look for the login screen on the lower half of the Credo homepage (in orange box above) or from the black tab named Homework Help on the right of the screen. After entering their name, grade level, and subject of interest, and submitting the request, the student will be connected to a live teacher within one minute. Give Credo Reference and Homework Help a try this school year and give the library some feedback about your experience. Remember to visit our E-RESOURCES webpage at http://espl.org/e-resources-2/ to locate this and other online resources. Have a wonderful year of exploration and discovery!
