Salisbury Zoo2U

On Wednesday, July 19 at 2:00 pm, the Salisbury Zoo2U program will be visiting the Accomac location of the Eastern Shore Public Library, and on Thursday, July 20 at 10:00 am, they will be at the Chincoteague Island Library. Join us and enjoy their wildlife encounter presentation including a “pop-up” zoo consisting of four animals.  Typically, they bring a bird, a mammal, a reptile, and either an amphibian or an invertebrate. We are all trying to guess which ones will be making an appearance at the libraries!

The Hoopoe Show

Mime and Magic Illusions with Chris ‘Hoopoe’ Yerlig

Chris “Hoopoe” Yerlig will entertain everyone on Friday, July 28 beginning at 11:00 am at the Cape Charles Memorial Library and 3:00 pm at the Accomac location of the Eastern Shore Public Library. In his show, Chris blends silent pantomime comedy, movement illusions, sleight of hand magic tricks and balloon wizardry, to create an original vaudeville show that is funny, imaginative and full of surprises. The unexpected is to be expected when audience volunteers are invited to join him on stage to assist with illusions. Young and old unite through laughter as they follow the non-verbal antics of this unique performer to their humorous ends. Don’t be fooled by anyone else!

Chris Yerlig, an English native began performing in 1985 on the streets of Europe. In the US, where he is now based, Chris performs regularly at libraries, children’s museums, schools, country fairs, festivals, and corporate events. He performed with Circus America at the Olympic Games in Athens, GA, and was a company member for ten years of Enchanted Circle Children’s Theater in Holyoke MA. Chris’s work has taken him around the world too: In Japan he performed at the Huis Ten Bosch Theme Park, and in China, at the Kimtom International Clown Festival of Shanghai. With Connecticut non-profit, Project Troubador, he has performed in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Morocco, Cameroon, Benin and Bangladesh. Since 2009 he has worked with Magicians Without Borders in El Salvador, Guatemala and India, performing and teaching mime to at-risk youth. For Clowns Without Borders he has organized and led clown tours to Haiti, where he performs regularly and is involved with the support of an orphanage of 40 children.

Reading by Design – Summer Reading Challenge and Events

Excitement and fun await those who journey to the public library this month. As part of our summer programming, more events are planned that will encourage kids to read, imagine, and design.  In our “Dream, STREAM, and Design” events we will explore Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and/or Math.  We are especially excited to have Creature Features with the Chincoteague Bay Field Station, Zoo2U from the Salisbury Zoo, and “Hoopoe!” the Silent Comedian visiting in July.  Check out our July calendar below for a complete list of events.
