Snuggle with a Book – 2018 Winter Reading Program
It is always a good time to snuggle and read a good book with a child, but right now is an especially great time! The Eastern Shore Public Library is now offering a Winter Reading Program called “Snuggle with a Book,” featuring artwork by illustrator, Jiaqi Zhou.
Sponsored by the Library of Virginia, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, VCU Arts, and Smart Beginnings, this program encourages parents and caregivers to read aloud with young children ages 0 to 6, and is open to families, daycare providers, and teachers. Many studies indicate that frequently reading aloud to children is very important. It helps them develop a love of reading and leads to future success in school. We all know it is a great way to create some quality family time.
To register for the 2018 Winter Reading Program, visit one of your local Eastern Shore of Virginia public libraries in Accomac, Cape Charles, Chincoteague, or Nassawadox to pick up our 2018 Winter Reading Program materials. Each child will receive a “Snuggle with a Book” packet including a reading log, a Book Booster Activity Sheet, bookmarks, stickers, and other information about the importance of early childhood literacy. At the end of the program, a certificate of completion will be awarded. The program begins Friday February 9 and runs through Saturday March 10.
Join us on Saturday, February 10 anytime between the hours of 9 AM – 11 AM to sign up the program during our “Foxy” kick-off event. Drop in when you can and have some fun with crafts, snacks, and books at the public library in Accomac. For kids 0 – 6 years old with their adult. Siblings are welcome too!
We will celebrate the completion of the program on March 10. We hope to see you at the library!
